Thanksgiving in Utah

I worked on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and immediately afterwards we made the five (ish) hour drive up to my grandma's in Lindon, UT. We got there around 9pm and still had to bake two pumpkin cheesecakes for the next day.

After you make a cheesecake you have to let it sit out at room temperature for about an hour before you can put it in the fridge. By the time we were done baking them (which takes about an hour), I was way too exhausted to wait another hour to put them in the fridge. Luckily my wonderful husband volunteered to stay awake and do it, and let me pass out. Thanks babe!

We had a wonderful holiday with my family. I'm glad Jason and I get along with each other's families;  it makes everything way easy! Oh, and we also got to see our friend Soup (Eric Campbell), he came over to my grandma's for games and leftover pie. Here's some pictures from the weekend:

I only lasted about 10 minutes, it was way too cold!

Here are some of the things I am grateful for: my husband, my family (immediate, distant, in-laws, all of them!), friends that still keep in touch with me even though we live far apart, technology (making communication way easier), our Tempurpedic bed, a roof over our heads/Sheena and Roger's generosity, freedom, the gospel, the First Presidency, a car, and not just having a job but having one that I love.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Mustache Movember

Jason decided to take part in the wonderful Mustache Movember, which requires him to grow ONLY a mustache, no other facial hair. Yuck. Here's how his face looked at the beginning of the month:

and November 30th:

The jacket doesn't help. He looks like Ron Burgundy:

The sad part was, I really didn't think it was THAT bad because it was gradually growing in, and I got to see it every day so it wasn't that shocking. Once he shaved it off and I looked at pictures, I told him that it was atrocious and he should never do it again haha. While shaving it off we had to have some fun and do a Hitler mustache:

One of the perks of my job is that I've gotten some free tickets to cool events! Teri scored me tickets to an MMA (mixed martial arts) fight at Texas Station. I have never really watched MMA, and I knew Jason would be excited. It was actually a lot of fun and we had great seats!

We got to meet/take pictures with some of the fighters!

Chidi "Chiddy Chiddy Bang Bang" Njokuani

I also got free tickets to a UNLV football game. Josh is a high school teacher and also the athletic director, so he gets random free stuff and sometimes passes it along to me! He's given me two sweatshirts and a bunch of Gatorade products.

Go Rebels! (They actually played pretty horribly,
and lost the game, but it's still fun to go!)

October

Let's see, what did we do in October that was exciting?

We bought tickets from Groupon to go see a musical, Evil Dead at Planet Hollywood's V Theater. It was a pretty entertaining show--great songs, very funny, and of course they squirt fake blood all over the place. Sadly we weren't close enough to get any, but it was still fun to watch other people get soaked.

Waiting in line

We didn't really do anything exciting for Halloween, just went to our ward party. We had decided to be Red and Kitty from That 70's Show, and originally Jason was going to shave his head like Red, but backed out. I had the hardest time finding a wig for Kitty, so unfortunately our hair wasn't very great for the costumes, but we still had fun dressing up like them. Jason is disappointed that I cannot mimic Kitty's laugh, but it's hard!

Jason loves his "new" corduroy pants and shirt.
He wears them often. I will never wear my outfit again haha.

Then Jason went from being Red, to being Bob...
or Hyde...or both?

Jason's family came to visit on their way to and from Mexico and it was nice getting to spend time with them. We walked around on the strip and took them to a trampoline house. I don't have any pictures from their visit unfortunately.

September (I'm not clever enough to come up with cool titles for my posts)

During the month of September, Jason was working as a manny (male nanny) for a family in our ward. It was fun having both of us doing the same job and exchanging our nanny tales at the end of the day :) Jason didn't love his job as much as I do unfortunately, but it was only temporary for him. The mom was quitting her job and just needed someone to be there in the meantime.

Our good friends from WA, Eliza and Erin, came to visit! We've found it pretty difficult to make friends here (all the other couples in our ward are way older and/or have kids, so there isn't really anyone to relate to. Also not being in school and being a nanny both limit friend-making opportunities) so it's always really exciting when friends come into town. Here are some pictures from their visit.

Of course we had to spend some time in the pool

August

So I don't know how many of you have been to Vegas in the summer time, but holy crap is it hot! I've lived in California so I thought I would be somewhat prepared, but boy was I wrong. It wasn't unusual for it to be over 110 degrees. The only time we left the house was to go straight to the pool that is in our neighborhood. Night time isn't really any better with lows in the 90s or 80s. There's basically no good time to be outside at all during the summer months. On our walks to the pool, it felt like the skin was literally melting off my body. Gross, I know. I am extremely happy that we did have a pool though, and that we were able to get nice tans!

A refreshing 103 degree day...

Our nephew Giovanni under water...he's a great swimmer!

The best part of August was that the family that I used to nanny for came to visit their grandparents (Charlie and Nancy) who live here, so we got to spend lots of time with them! Of course I was in heaven, I'd only been gone a month and was already missing my boys like crazy! We went over to Charlie's sister's house for a BBQ and of course we spent the whole day in the pool. Jason did a great job of convincing the boys to jump into the pool. They were not excited at all, but he eventually showed them that it was fun and there was nothing to be afraid of! I was so proud of them. We got to go out to dinner on the strip with them at Maggiano's (soooo delicious!), and watched the pirate show at Treasure Island. Another fun thing we did while they were here was go to the go-kart place.

I love this picture!

Jason's first time on the strip!

Charlie and Nancy had extra tickets to a 51's baseball game so of course Jason and I were more than happy to take them off their hands. We brought Roger and his friend from work Nick. I got a baseball and had one of the players sign it. They won the game, and there were fireworks afterwards. Lots of fun, even though neither one of us had ever even heard of the team before this haha.

Before the game, waiting for Roger and Nick

One of my good friends from California, Erica, came to town so I got to meet up with her. She was supposed to be a bridesmaid at my wedding but wasn't able to come, so I was glad I got to see her here. Actually the night before I saw her, I got the opportunity to go to a Fun. concert with Erica's friend Melissa, who was already in Vegas, had an extra ticket, and didn't want to go alone. I felt like I was being set up on a blind date but agreed to go meet up with Melissa and go to the concert with her. Free concert, a new friend, how could I say no? Luckily Melissa was awesome, we had tons of fun, and the concert was amazing!

Going clubbing with them the next night was definitely an interesting experience. I used to do that sort of thing all the time. I loved staying out late and dancing all night. I borrowed some "going out" clothes from Sheena, and my husband gladly sent me on my way. He hates dancing and wanted me to go get it out of my system so I wouldn't ask him to go dance ever haha. Well I don't know if it's because I'm "old" or because I got married, but I was ready to go home before we even went out haha. We didn't even get to the place until 11 or so (already past my bedtime!) and once we got there, I just got extremely irritated by how loud it was, how crowded it was (all those sweaty drunk bodies pressed up against me...yuck), and all I wanted to do was go home to my husband. I'm so lame, I know. I kept texting him and telling him I wasn't having fun, so after maybe 45 minutes in the club, I said goodbye to the girls and left. Either way, I was glad I went and got to spend some time with Erica!

E-Unit reunited!

Oh, I also got a job at this time. I had already received a job offer from a nice lady named Sheila, who had twin babies (very young, only a month or two old, a boy and a girl) but they lived really far away and I did a trial day with them and quickly discovered how stressful that job would be. The babies were so young and required so much attention. They slept and ate at different times, I didn't get to eat that whole day and was only able to go to the bathroom once (very quickly!). The parents hadn't even done it on their own yet, they both had their mothers staying there helping them. How did they expect me to do it all by myself when they couldn't even do it the two of them?? I politely declined, which was a huge risk, because I didn't have any other job lined up yet, Jason didn't either, and we were quickly running out of money. I talked to him about it though and he didn't want me to take the job if it was going to stress me out that much, so we took a leap of faith and luckily, about a week later I got an interview for a family who lived MUCH closer (only about 10 minutes away).

The Williams family (ironic, huh?) also had twins (boys, a year and a half old, Carter and Wyatt). What is it with me and twins, seriously?! I think I am destined to have some of my own. This way I'll be more prepared I guess haha. Anyway, they hired me a few hours after my interview and I've been with them ever since. They're a great family, the dad is from Seattle so we bonded over that, and the boys are a lot of fun! I love being a nanny!
